Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs, including medicinal & natural products w/o prescription eg, St. John's Wort; pethidine. Severe liver problems.
Special Precautions
May possibly increase risk of skin cancer. Reports of impulse control disorders. May cause drowsiness & patient may suddenly fall asleep during daytime activities especially if taking other dopaminergic drugs. Caution in patients w/ liver problems. May influence ability to drive & use machines. Avoid during pregnancy. Not recommended in childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dyskinesia, headache. Abdominal pain, fall, allergy, fever, flu, malaise, neck pain, angina pectoris, orthostatic hypotension, decreased appetite, constipation, dry mouth, nausea & vomiting, flatulence, leucopenia, arthralgia, musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, decreased wt, abnormal dreams, balance disorder, depression, vertigo, dystonia, rhinitis, dermatitis, rash, conjunctivitis, urinary urgency.
Drug Interactions
Potential interaction w/ certain antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs or tetracyclic antidepressants); ciprofloxacin; dextromethorphan; sympathomimetics eg, those present in eye drops, nasal & oral decongestants & cold medicine containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine. Decreased blood conc w/ smoking. Avoid concomitant use w/ antidepressants containing fluoxetine or fluvoxamine.
